CAS DataLoggers Introduces New Wireless Gateway Using Modbus

New Novus Wireless AirGate Modbus Gateway

CHESTERLAND OH—November 3, 2011

CAS DataLoggers has partnered with Novus Automation to introduce the new Wireless AirGate-Modbus Gateway, a wireless multifunctional gateway that allows the transparent and easy insertion of wireless branches into existing wired RS485 networks. The AirGate-Modbus has four operation modes: Modbus Master, multiplexer, USBRS485 converter and simple wireless RS485 extension. A proprietary protocol based on IEEE 802.15.4 facilitates operation in Star mode, enabling the connection of several wireless segments to an existing Modbus RS-485 network. With the new Novus gateway’s many features, users gain quick integration of their wireless technology at a low cost.

The Novus AirGate offers up to 16 operating channels and a maximum transmission power of 100 mW. Bright LEDs give users clear status indication. Operating on a 10 to 35 Vdc power supply, the gateway can achieve an RF data rate of up to 250 Kbps and a serial port baud rate of 1200 to 115.2 Kbps. Using an operating band of ISM 2.4 Ghz and an antenna gain of 2 dBi, the AirGate’s wireless range extends out to 328 ft. (100m) indoors and 3280 ft. (1000m) outdoors. The Novus gateway uses a network identifier (PAN ID) for transparency and runs at a broad operating temperature of 0 to 70°C (32°F-158°F). The AirGate is a low-power solution with a power consumption of only 70 mA (@ 24 Vdc).

Also included are an RP SMA female connector plug and two RS485 connectors for Modbus RTU interface. Data collection is a snap with the gateway’s Mini-B USB device. Additionally, the gateway’s wireless capability is backed by strong security, utilizing powerful AES-CBC-128 Data cryptography (Advanced Encryption Standard).

CAS DataLoggers is offering the new Novus logger at an ideal price point for users who want all its essential features without breaking their budgets. This hassle-free device gives users a single solution for solving the problem of how to incorporate new wireless technology into their existing wired networks.
